June. 6th Persistent Prayer
Bible Reading: 1 Thess. 5:16; Lk. 18:1-2; Mat. 6:5-7, 16-18
1 Thess. 5:16-17 ‘rejoice always, pray without ceasing’
The world has rapidly moved onto the fast lane. Everything’s done hastily, everyone’s in a hurry and businesses constantly devise means to feed the ‘fast pace’ of life. It’s like the earth is on steroids and is addicted to an insatiable hunger for the ‘now’.
Sadly this attitude has fed into the prayer habits and lifestyle of Christians. Prayer cannot be hurried or hasty. You cannot rush prayer, having an eye on the clock and the other on God’s throne; expecting Him to ‘understand’ that you have things to do.
Paul said ‘pray without ceasing’. Jesus admonished ‘men always ought to pray’ and Jude insisted that you ‘build yourself up on your most holy faith, praying…’ There can be no shortcut; prayer must be persistent.
Jesus commended the widow in Luke chapter eighteen for being importunate, relentless and determined. She got her desire because she would not let go or give up. It’s time you figure what you want from the Lord and move to praying with conviction and unyielding insistence.
Prayer:
i. Repent of treating God like the drive through of a fast food franchise; making selfish orders. Jam. 4:3
ii. Humble yourself and seek God in prayer. Dedicate time daily to spend with Him. Eph. 6:18; 2 Chron. 7:14
Thought for the day:
Stay in God’s presence daily for appreciable times
