June. 4th Profits Of Prayer II
Bible Reading: Acts 2:2-4; Lk. 9:28; Is. 6:5-7
Lk. 9:28-29 ‘now it came to pass, about eight days after these sayings, that He took Peter, John, and James and went up on the mountain to pray. As He prayed, the appearance of His face was altered, and His robe became white and glistening’
One of the striking benefits of prayer is its cleansing quality. Prayer subdues the flesh and purges the taste of sin. Jesus went up the mountain to pray and ‘…His robe became white and glistening.’ Prayer truly scrubs the stain and stench of sin by the Blood of Jesus and applying God’s Word to the soul.
Several years ago a gentleman attended a series of prayer meetings in church. They were quite intense and focused on praying in the Spirit for considerable lengths of time. He later testified of how he was freed from an addiction to porn that had resisted years of effort. He couldn’t even tell when the chains where broken off.
The truth is evil forces are kept at bay by the fire of God on prayer warriors. Just as wild beasts stay away from fire, demons steer clear of ‘red-hot’ believers. Prayer enhances high-tension-spirituality, encourages intimacy with God and is a most desirable Christian exercise.
Eph. 6:18 ‘praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints’
Many do not realise how much they miss out on simply because of prayerlessness. No prayer; no power! David said ‘awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn’ Ps. 57:8. Cast off the slumber, clear the cluttered schedule and settle down to daily prayer and travail for a bright future.
Prayer:
i. Ask God to set the fire of the Holy Spirit on you. Desire Him in prayer more than silver and gold. Zeph. 1:18
ii. Pray in the Holy Spirit (heavenly language) for a period of time. Persist till you have a release within you. Jude. 1:20
