May 23rd I will follow you
Bible Reading: Rm 8:12 Jn 16:24
Ps 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me
In my younger days I would go with my mother to the market place. She would lead and I would follow. She would weave in and out of the on coming pedestrian traffic and sometimes stop on a dime. I would sometimes bump into her when I wasn’t paying close enough attention.
As a result of this, I developed a strategy. I wouldn’t walk so close behind her so that I could see exactly where she was going and make the appropriate adjustments. I didn’t want to be bumping into her or any other person on the journey. You know, sometimes if we would pause, take a step back and observe we might not bump into so many distractions along our journey.
Joshua’s officers spoke to people regarding the Ark of the covenant‘ saying, “When you see the Ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before. Jos 3:3
You see the Holy Spirit is going to lead us into unfamiliar territory, places that you’ve never walked before and even into things you’ve never experienced. We can’t afford to get too familiar with the Holy One on the inside of us and think ‘Well, He’s always led me this way’. Things can change and we need to be ready to move with the cloud just as they did in the days of Moses
Prayer:
• Ask God to open your eyes and heart that you may discern His leading Eph 1:17-19
• Ask God to lead you at all times Pro 3:6
Thought for the day:
Being a follower takes patience, focus and the willingness to let go of self.
