May 31st The Holy Spirit’s mission
Bible Reading: John 16:13-15; Jn 16:7-10
Jn 16:8 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.”
The scriptures tell us that and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one but the good news is that the Holy Spirit, The comforter, has been sent by God to illuminate us. Apart from His ministry to us, He also has an assignment to the world and that is to convict them of sin, righteousness and judgment.
A conviction is to prove or declare one guilty of an offence, especially after a legal trial. Well, we have all been found guilty of transgressing the laws of God and the only way out is Jesus Christ, who paid the price for all of our sins on the cross of Calvary, 2000 years ago. Conviction also speaks of convincing, ‘making a case for’.
The Holy Spirit by virtue of His holiness convicts the unrighteous of their crimes. This means that everyone in the whole world no matter what they call themselves are made aware that something is wrong. Brethren we need to be there to explain the problem and to put forward the only solution there is, which is, to believe in God and Christ, who was sent to save us from our sin.
He will convict the world of righteousness meaning God’s right ways or God’s ways of doing things. He will also convict the world of judgment. Yes, the prince of this world, Satan has already been judged and you and I already have the victory. We just need to enforce our victory, the victory Christ purchased with His very own blood on the cross.
Prayer:
• Lord, create an atmosphere for the Holy Spirit to fulfill His mission. Mat 6:9
• Lord, let everyone experience the glory of the Lord.
Acts 2:17
Thought for the day:
Let God be true and every man a liar.
