May 16th Holy Spirit – The Assigned Coach
Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 2:15; 1Timothy 6:12, 1 Cor 9:24:27
2 Tim 2:15 ‘Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.’
1 Tim 6:12 ‘Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.’
1Cor 9:24-27: ‘Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified’.
Boxing is a combat sport in which two people engage in a contest of strength, speed, reflexes, endurance and will. Boxing professionals hire experts to coach them to stay in top shape especially during a major fight. The coach’s job is to train and enhance the individual’s talent and it is imperative that strict rules and disciplines are adhered to.
It is unlikely that a professional fighter would expect his coach to knockout his opponent during a fight. The coach is also responsible for coaching the boxer through the fight, whilst the responsibility of the boxer is to use all the tools that coach has given him and win the fight. Each has a different responsibility but they have to work as a team.
You may be contending for a God-given promise –“title”. God has already established an undisputable “World Title” for every believer, which Jesus secured on the cross, but you still need to engage in a spiritual fight to maintain the right of ownership and the Holy Spirit is your assigned Coach from the Father.
You are not in a competition with anyone but are in combat with principalities and spiritual forces fighting against your title. The good news is that the fight is fixed and the outcome has already been announced. We win! Trust and obey the voice of your Coach and remain a winner!
‘However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you’. John 16:13
