March 27th Away With Depression
Bible Reading: 1 Sam. 30:1-4; Eph. 5:18-20; Ps. 119:28
Is. 61:3 ‘to console those who mourn in Zion, to give them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they may be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified’
Child of God, heaviness is a spirit. It’s a key strategy of the devil to strip God’s people naked. Satan knows God is never present where heaviness prevails. He is a God of joy and gives the ‘oil of joy for mourning’
Depression is often a foul spirit that operates through overwhelming feelings of hopelessness, despair, frustration, abandonment and sudden or chronic disappointment. It is Satan’s ploy to steal praise and God’s presence and amounts to a grievous sin.
Cast away the heaviness, it takes attention away from God to whatever the difficulty is. David said ‘my soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to your word’ Ps. 119:28. Depression ‘worships’ problems and ‘incapacitates’ the soul.
The way to quash depression is to be full of the Spirit, to focus on the Word of God and to give thanks and praise heartily. So ignore the way you feel and willfully lift your heart, hands and soul
