Jan. 26th ‘Habitual Meditation’ – Daily Devotional by Dr Albert Odulele
Bible Reading:     1 Cor. 10:13; Gen. 24:63

1 Cor. 10:13 ‘no temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it’

No matter how dark and deep the pit or problem, there is always a way out. The bible says God ‘will also make the way of escape’ and by wisdom point out the way. One sure way to tap divine wisdom is meditation. ‘I meditate within my heart, and my spirit makes diligent search’ Ps. 77:6

Meditation is quiet tranquil contemplation. Settle down. Be calm. Create an atmosphere that’s ‘God conducive’ and minimise distraction and agitation. David quipped ‘I remember you on my bed, I meditate on you in the night watches’ Ps. 63:6. He found the ‘place’ to meditate.

Fill your mind with powerful constructive considerations and not useless unproductive thoughts. Isaac habitually meditated and ‘went out to meditate in the field in the evening’ Gen. 24:63. Those who customarily meditate are endowed with wisdom and set apart in their generation.

My hands also I will lift up to your commandments, which I love, and I will meditate on your statutes’        Ps. 119:48
My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on your word’                                      Ps. 119:148
I will meditate on the glorious splendour of your majesty, and on your wondrous works’                              Ps. 145:5

Paul was familiar with meditation too, was a deep thinker and an avid reader. These are reasons he was such a wise personality. TV, radio, games and movies fill your mind with other peoples thoughts but meditation on the Word, God and His works makes you wise
