Jan. 19th ‘Do Good!’ – Daily Devotional by Dr Albert Odulele
Bible Reading: Dan. 6:2-22; Rom. 12:21; Job. 28:28
Prov. 14:19 ‘the evil will bow before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous’
No matter what, evil will always ‘bow’ before good. Be a doer of good and you will never need to be afraid of evil. No one can follow ‘righteousness’ (that which is right in the sight of God) and be a victim of evil.
Daniel said ‘my God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you’ Dan. 6:22. His ‘good’ prevailed over the ‘evil’ intentions of men.
‘Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good’ Rom. 12:21. Good is an overcoming force. Good has prevailing power and can never be threatened or squashed by evil. David said ‘let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you’ Ps. 25:21
Witchcraft, violence, fraud, disease, calamity etc cannot stand-up to good. That’s why Job said ‘far be it from me that I should say you are right; till I die I will not put away my integrity from me’ Job 27:5. Hold on to godliness and be impervious to the onslaught of evil against you. This is the wisdom of God.
Even Balaam, the soothsayer said ‘behold, I have received a command to bless; He has blessed, and I cannot reverse it. He has not observed iniquity in Jacob, nor has He seen wickedness in Israel. The Lord his God is with him, and the shout of a King is among them’ Num. 23:20-21
Prayer:
- Present your body as a living sacrifice to God. Recommit to a holy lifestyle 12:1
- Pray against superficial spirituality, worldliness and inadequate devotional lifestyles in the church. 2 Tim. 4:2-4
Thought for the day:
Do ‘good’ always, no matter the circumstances. It’s your escape ticket from all ‘evil’
