June. 20th The ‘When’ Of Prayer I
Bible Reading: Gen. 22:3; Ps. 16:11; 86:3
1 Thess. 5:17 ‘pray without ceasing’
Every Christian should engage in continuous prayer and keep communication with the Father on going. This is crucial to a vibrant and Spirit filled life. The bible says ‘pray without ceasing’; that means ‘pray, and keep on praying’.
Have a daily-designated time of prayer but treat ‘every time’ as a time for prayer. David said ‘evening and morning and at noon I will pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice’ Ps. 55:17. Anyone who prays evening, morning and noontime must pray all the time.
I tell folk, ‘its not how long but how well you pray’. Lengthy prayers help you imbibe God’s nature and character but do not, in themselves, guarantee divine answers. Whatever you do, pray daily. This is a priceless habit of gigantic proportions.
Abraham, the father of faith prayed early and daily. He was a devout man and maintained an intimate interaction with the Lord. I learnt the following song as a young child ‘Read your bible pray every day, pray every day, pray every day if you want to grow’. Like David, pray every day.
Prayer:
i. Pray for the grace to pray without ceasing. Ask for a spirit of supplication and intercession. Eph. 6:18
ii. Decree peace, blessings, prosperity, good leadership and the mercies of God upon your nation. Prov.11:11; Job 22:28
Thought for the Day:
Commune with God from the heart at all times.
