June. 26th The Prayer of Petition I
Bible Reading: Mk. 10:46-52; 1 Jn. 5:14
Mk. 11:24 ‘therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them’
A petition is an earnest request, in this case to God. It is a formal appeal and the commonest form of prayer. The prayer of petition is calling for something that you are entitled to and God has generously provided.
Through the prayer of petition, God changes things, solves problems, grants desires and meets needs. That’s why Jesus said ‘and whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive’ Mat. 21:22.
The prayer of petition is governed by specific rules that must be followed. First amongst a few is that you must be clear and specific about what you want. Hannah wanted a child and was specific about it being a male. ‘…But give your maidservant a male child, then I will give him to the Lord…’ 1 Sam. 1:11
‘So Jesus answered and said to him, what do you want me to do for you? The blind man said to Him, rabboni, that I may receive my sight’. Mk. 10:51 Bartimaeus was exact in what he wanted Jesus to do for him; that’s how the prayer of petition works.
Secondly the prayer of petition is the same thing as the prayer of faith. Be filled with faith, reject doubt and base your petition on agreeing scriptures. ‘But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him’ Heb. 11:6
Prayer:
i. Re-present your petitions before God with faith, precision and bible promises
ii. Ask God to turn around impossible situations and enlarge your territory 1 Chron. 4:10
