May 24th The Comforter
Bible Reading: Ps 46:1b; Phi 4:7
2Cor 1:3,4 ‘Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.’
Have you ever wondered why one of the names Jesus gave the Holy Spirit was ‘Comforter’? Of all the names that He could have been called, why this one in particular? Did the early church need comforting? Do we need comforting now? Will we need comforting in the future?
The answer to those questions is a resounding yes! We are promised in Ps 34:19 that many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers us from them all and we are also told that ‘all that live Godly shall suffer persecution’ in 2Tim 3:12. So yes, we do need a Comforter and God has sent Him for this reason
He promised never to leave us nor forsake us. He’s our very present help in trouble. He’s near to the broken in heart. He will give you peace in your storm, yes, just like Jesus. Can you imagine Jesus sleeping soundly in the midst of a storm? That’s because peace was His pillow. The Kingdom of God is in righteousness peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
The Holy Spirit will always bring comfort to you wherever you are and He will sometimes even send people, yes people. That’s why we shouldn’t cut ourselves off when we get into trouble. In the multitude of counsel there is safety. You never know whom God will use for your lifting.
Prayer:
• Lord helps me to focus my attention on you. Is 26:3
• Give me the words to be of comfort to others. Is 40:1,2

Thought for the day:
He will never leave you alone
